Chris Smith Lofts

In Remembrance of Oom Chris Smith

Auction ended on the 08th November 2017, all 130 birds were sold.

The sudden passing of Oom Chris is very sad news indeed. We will all most definitely pay tribute to his legacy as one of SA’s & the Pigeon Sports greatest men – a leader that treated his fellow humans with fairness, personal warmth, respect and dignity. He made a huge impact on the South African pigeon fraternity & served the pigeon sport on many levels.

Besides being a former mayor, business executive & devout family man – pigeons racing was his world – a world he shared with his pigeon friends of which some world call him Dad.

Since inviting me to the prize giving function to do the media coverage for the SA & World Pigeon News of him winning the TRPF/THU Car Race, I have been closely involved writing extensive articles about his famous Chris Smith Blues. Selections of Chris Smith Blues for clients produced major successes country wide – a winner of the R1000 ring race, 5x 1st, 4x 1st, Medallist achievers, numerous ‘Click pairs’ & One-day Loft scores etc., the list is endless. Sometimes his memory would fail him about the breeding of a bird, keeping so many – but take my word for it, it’s is a Chris Blue – or of late, from the ‘Blue Silk Pair’, crossed with the Chris Smith Blues.

What I personally admired most about him was his positivism and energetic spirit, which I am certain I can speak for everybody that knew him, that his zeal for life lifted one’s mood. When my wife and I congratulating him with his 80th Birthday on the 16th of October, he still had big pigeon dreams, besides planning to scale down to a more manageable level. We often had a ‘spiritual conversation’ during which times he always gave glory to God for his life & success in pigeon racing. The hospitality of Chris and his wife Tannie Anna & Family at Villa ChrisAnna, Chris Smith Street, Boksburg West, will always be fondly remembered by his many pigeon friends.

We salute his life and memory – Sincere condolences to the Smith Family.

Kindest Regards & God Bless !
